This ceramic object is a conversation between materials. One Hundred and Fifty-Six Tiles were all cast by hand, glazed individually, and fired in four different atmospheres. Together, forming a cohesive whole. Research, exploration, and archiving are intertwined with a focus on structured and detailed simplicity.

The individual tiles refer to “test tiles” and were each glazed with a unique combination to learn more about the attributes of raw materials in ceramics. The recipes were prepared using both industrial and self-collected materials. Fired in an electric, a gas, and two wood-firing kilns, even more different surfaces and colour combinations were created.

Assembled into a bedside table, the object creates a bridge between furniture design and ceramic research.

If you’re interested in what atmosphere each tile was fired in, you can learn more about the individual tiles in the documentation further down. The number written on each tile of the 3D Scan refers to the glaze combinations and firing atmospheres written on my scanned notes.

If you are interested in the exact glaze recipe, don't hesitate to get in touch with me!
